Name:J. Scott Wynn

Age:53

I am from:I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and lived in Scottsdale, Arizona, since 1994.

Occupation:Carillon Life-Care Community executive director

Website:www.carillonlubbock.com

How I ended up in this business:Marketing and demographics was always of interest to me and, in my mid-20s, I began to envision how the aging of America would unfold. Health care seemed like a very promising profession. I met a young woman, later to be my wife, whose family owned a small assisted-living community, so I began working with her brother and father in the business and other opportunities presented themselves that I embraced. I am grateful every day for the opportunity to work with this field.

The one thing I enjoy most about my work:Is helping people live a good quality of life and seeing employees develop professionally and personally.

My business philosophy is:Integrity first.

What Lubbockites may not know about Carillon:Carillon is a not-for-profit "community," but it is so much more than just a place to live. Not only do our residents and employees give Carillon this sense of community, they participate in many worthwhile social causes that benefit Lubbock and the area. In short, we are givers.

The best advice I've ever received:Is from my mother, and it's very simple. Be true to yourself, think of others, be kind to everyone.

The person I most admire is:There are women and men I admire in different areas of life. However, I keep a small statue of George Washington kneeling by his horse in prayer while at Valley Forge. The symbol of this great man humbly seeking divine guidance is a constant inspiration to me.

My family:Includes my wife of 30 years, Marilisa, three daughters, Steffanie, Christine and Loren, two sons, Jeffrey and Jacob, and eight grandchildren.

If I could be anything, I'd be:President of the American Red Cross, to have the opportunity to help as many people as possible.

I wish I knew how to:Knit, pack a parachute and fly a plane.

If I could change one thing about Lubbock, it would be:Nothing yet! This is the first place I've lived where everyone is as happy as I am. It's refreshing to be away from a huge city, where hardly anyone is personable. In Lubbock, not only do I know my neighbors, but it feels like I know the entire city!

When I retire, I plan to:Probably not retire.
