After having hired out-of-state companies for initial work on the future Hinds County Continental Tire plant site, the company is encouraging local contractors to register online for future jobs.

Continental directs local contractors to Mississippi Development Authority's website, where companies will be required to provide information like: the type of service, minority or woman-owned status, veteran or disabled-owned status, whether it is a small business or a Mississippi Disadvantaged Business Enterprise.

Only Mississippi companies can register on the site.

"Continental will use the submitted information when considering vendors and contractors. Registration will also provide prospective vendors and contractors with notifications regarding Continental Request for Proposal opportunities, important updates, and timelines," stated a Continental press release Tuesday evening.

Continental will be hiring a general contractor as well as contractors to serve as design construction manager and to design and build the training facility. Subcontractors will also have opportunities to obtain work in the future.

Construction is set to begin in 2018 for the $1.4 billion facility.
