Major Saudi Arabian newspaper heaps praise on Melania Trump for 'classy and conservative' fashion choices

First lady Melania Trump received rave reviews by a major Saudi Arabian newspaper on Sunday for her fashion choices while in the Islamic country.

According to CNN, Arab News circulated a special English edition of its newspaper and praised Trump for her "classy and conservative" fashion choices on Saturday. With a story about Trump's fashion, Arab News included a picture of Trump in a black jumpsuit that she wore as she and President Donald Trump disembarked Air Force One in Riyadh on Saturday.

The newspaper praised Trump's clothing because it resembled the abaya — a black, robe-like dress that almost every Saudi woman is required to wear in public — and because the jumpsuit respected the country's "modest" dress code.

The headline on the story read, "Classy and conservative: US First Lady Melania Trump praised for ‘elegantly respectful’ KSA look."

More from Arab News:

Melania Trump landed in the Saudi capital of Riyadh wearing a Stella McCartney jumpsuit adorned with a statement belt, which was the most eye-catching feature of the all-black overall.

The stretch cady jumpsuit — with wide-leg silhouette, keyhole cut-out at the bust, and cuffed sleeves — caught the attention of many international media outlets and was admired by Saudis who appreciated the modest, yet classy look of the first lady

The story said that women in Saudi Arabia were trying to mimic Trump's style by wearing "Melania-style" abayas, and included the social media posting of a woman in her abaya mimicking Trump.

Trump's decision to not wear a "hijab" on her trip also made international headlines Saturday. In most Arab nations, women are required by law to hide their hair with a hijab, which just covers the hair, or a niqab, which covers the hair and entire face except for an opening for eyes, while in public.

Ivanka Trump, who is accompanying her father on his international trip, also chose not to wear the hijab, but did wear long pants and sleeves in accordance with Saudi Arabia's strict dress code.

Saturday marked the first day of President Trump's first foreign trip as president. After Saudi Arabia,  Trump is slated to make stops in Israel, Italy and Belgium on the 9-day trip.
