“Abs are made in kitchen, not gym”
Mayank Kalra, the hot actor with a six-pack worth flaunting, is all set to go shirtless in his upcoming flick, ‘Sunshine Music Tours & Travels’. Mayank got girls moonstruck with his performance in “It’s Complicated: Relationship Ka Naya Status”. He shares with us his fitness regime, diets that help achieve toned abs and the workouts he is planning to try.
What is your fitness regime?
I never stick to one regime.
I believe in combined training so I keep changing my regimes according to the targets that I need to achieve.
What is the secret behind your eight-pack abs?
More than any secret, there's hard work and a lot of discipline. I train and eat clean throughout the day because I believe abs are made in kitchen, not in the gym.
What pre-workout and post-workout foods do you prefer?
These two meals are really important for your workout. Pre workout you need a complete meal which should be a mixture of good number of carbs, protein and fibre. So, I generally take sweet potato, eggs and salad. Post workout also you need a good mix of these three components to repair the damaged tissues and tone your muscles. So, both the meals should be well taken care of.

Do you believe in following fad diets?
Never. I don’t believe in such diets because I believe in eating healthy food for performance while training. Fad diets are generalized and may not give you the nutrition that you need for a healthy body. I keep in mind to only eat clean and healthy.
What fitness routine did you follow for your upcoming Bollywood flick ‘Sunshine Music Tours & Travels’?
For SMTT, I was supposed to have six-pack abs as I am shirtless throughout the movie. So I’ve trained really hard for it and was on a disciplined diet. I made sure I had good amounts of sleep. Unfortunately I only had one and a half month to prepare for the movie and it was not enough. I managed with sticking to my training with a strict discipline and it helped me achieve a six-pack.
What's the longest duration you've gone without exercising?
It never is that long because I feel incomplete if I don’t train daily. It is only when I am travelling or I am not well that I don’t train. Otherwise, I like to train six days a week.
Your fitness mantra?
There's no mantra as such but I’d like to quote one saying – ‘You are born weak and you will die weaker, but what you do in between is what matters’. So just give your health that one hour every day. We never leave home without brushing our teeth. Similarly, do not leave for work without working out. Just try and make time. One hour is all you need. Train regular, eat well and stay healthy.
Are there any workouts that you're planning to try?
Yes. In fact there's a lot to try because I do a lot of skill-based training like calisthenics. In this, there's so much to learn and so many skills to hone. Right now, I am working on some different variations of push-ups and pull-ups.
Most impressive physique in Bollywood?
Tiger Shroff’s. He not only looks good with his toned body but he is also super fit and that’s a great combination of body and skill.
