KIEV (Sputnik) — The restrictions were imposed as the TV channels, the programming of which largely consists of entertainment shows, did not adapt advertising they were airing to comply with Ukrainian legislation, the UNIAN news agency said, citing the council's chairman, Iurii Artemenko.
In June, Artemenko said that the council had restricted the broadcasting of 58 Russian TV channels in Ukraine.
Freedom of the media in Ukraine has been repeatedly violated since the start of the military conflict between the Kiev authorities and Donbas militia in April 2014. Several international journalists have been abducted, tortured and killed during the hostilities, including Rossiya Segodnya photojournalist Andrei Stenin.
