Named after a book that covers the 1970s music scene in Australia, it is also a tribute to one record label.
“We represent, arguably, some of the best rock and roll the country has ever produced,” Rose Tattoo lead singer Angry Anderson said.
And he said the common denominator was Albert Productions, a record label that made its name in the 1970s.
“That particular guitar sound, that is synonymous with those bands, I think it was captured best at Albert’s,” Angry said.
“Their influence goes back of course to the great guitar sound of Lobby Loyde. We’re really a very, very authentic revue of Albert’s sound and material.”
For 10 years, from 1974 onwards, Albert Productions produced 20 per cent of the music on the Australian charts, regularly having three or four tracks in the top 20 at the one time.
Blood, Sweat and Beers is a show that celebrates the music from that era with former band members from the four bands pulling it together in one show.
“One of the things we take great pride in, is everyone in the line-up has played in one of those bands, so we’re playing one and other’s songs,” Angry said.
“Jimmy Hilbun plays bass and he was in The Angels for years and years, Mark Evans of course is the original bass player with AC/DC, Dai Pritchard stepped in to fill Pete (Well’s) shoes with Rose Tattoo when Pete was dying of prostate cancer. So we bring that authenticity.”
Angry said the band was put together, when the bands were back together playing the same festival several years ago and discussed what they had been doing musically.
“We realised we were playing the same material with different cover bands, playing the music that we helped create,” he said. “We got together and thought instead of us working independently of one another, we’ll work together.”
We’re really a very, very authentic revue of Albert’s sound and material.

The only member of the Blood, Sweat and Beers line-up who has not come from one of those bands is drummer Greg Aldridge.
“He actually plays in an AC/DC tribute band,” Angry said. “He’s a session guy, but there wasn’t a drummer available, that had belonged to one of those (bands).
“Paul DeMarco was Rose Tattoo’s drummer, but he’s still on holiday at Long Bay. So we got the next best thing, Greg’s a masterful drummer.”
Jimmy Hilbun sings The Angels songs, Grant Walmsley sings The Jets’ hits, and Angry sings both Rose Tattoo and AC/DC songs.
Friday night’s concert at Armidale Servies starts at 8pm. Tickets are on sale.
