Major Lazer, Justin Bieber & MO’s ‘Cold Water’ Splashes in at No. 2 on Hot 100 as Sia Stays Up Top

Sia retains the No. 1 crown on the Billboard Hot 100 (dated Aug. 13) with “Cheap Thrills,” featuring Sean Paul, while Major Lazer‘s “Cold Water,” featuring Justin Bieber and MO, rushes onto the chart at No. 2 and is the best-selling song of the week.
As we do every Monday when the chart is refreshed, let’s run down the Hot 100’s top 10 and more. Highlights of the airplay, sales and streaming-based Hot 100 post on Billboard.com each Monday, with all charts updated each Tuesday.
Sia’s “Thrills” holds atop the Hot 100 for a second straight frame after becoming her first leader a week ago. The cut, originally intended for Rihanna, earns its best sales week to date, selling 126,000 downloads (up 4 percent) in the week ending July 28, according to Nielsen Music, and holds at No. 2 on Digital Songs.
“Thrills” also climbs to No. 2 on Radio Songs, its highest peak, after grabbing 147.1 million in audience (up 4 percent) in the week ending July 31. The track holds at No. 1 on the Pop Songs airplay chart for a second straight frame.

Major Lazer’s “Cold Water,” featuring Justin Bieber & MO, bursts onto the Hot 100 at No. 2. The single is the top-selling song of the week, clocking 169,000 downloads, and opens at No. 1 on Digital Songs, becoming Major Lazer and MO’s first leader on the chart and their biggest sales weeks to date. “Water” becomes Bieber’s fifth No. 1 on the list to date, following “Boyfriend” (2012), “What Do You Mean?” (2015), “Sorry” (2015) and “Love Yourself” (2016).
“Cold Water” also debuts at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart, scoring 19.6 million U.S. streams in its opening frame, and concurrently opens at No. 1 on the subscription-based On-Demand Songs chart, powering to 14.9 million domestic on-demand streams in its first week. On the Radio Songs chart, the track flies 49-25 with greatest gainer honors in its first full week of airplay, earning 41.9 million in audience impressions in the week ending July 31 (up 69 percent).
With its No. 2 debut on the Hot 100, “Water” instantly becomes the highest-charting Hot 100 hit for both Major Lazer and MO. The rank surpasses their previous bests, which both achieved with the No. 4 high for “Lean On” in August 2015. Bieber, meanwhile, boasts three No. 1s to date: “What Do You Mean?” debuted at the top in 2015, while “Sorry” and “Love Yourself” ascended to the pinnacle earlier this year.
Though Bieber misses out on his fourth Hot 100 leader (for now, at least), the No. 2 debut gives the superstar a new chart distinction: Bieber collects his third No. 2 bow, the most of any artist. In addition to “Water,” he began in the runner-up slot with “Boyfriend” and “Sorry.” He passes Mariah Carey, who earned two No. 2 debuts with “Always Be My Baby” in 1996 and “My All” in 1998. (Possible consolation for Bieber: Both “Baby” and “All” eventually climbed to No. 1 on the Hot 100.)
Plus, adding in the No. 1 debut of “What Do You Mean?,” the superstar now extends his run as the male artist with the most debuts in the top 2 in Hot 100 history: four. Carey, with five tracks, leads all artists. The songbird’s aforementioned “Always Be My Baby” and “My All” entered in the runner-up slot, while “Fantasy” and “One Sweet Day,” with Boyz II Men (both 1995) and “Honey” (1997) all debuted in the penthouse.
Another milestone for Bieber: The “Water” arrival gives him his sixth top 10 debut on the Hot 100, tying him with Drake and Lil Wayne for the second-most among male acts. Eminem, with eight top 10 debuts, leads all males. Among all acts, Taylor Swift holds this chart record, owning a whopping 12 songs that each began their Hot 100 runs in the top 10.
Drake’s ‘Views’ Spends 12th Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200, Gucci Mane Bows at No. 2
As for the rest of the top 10 on the Hot 100, Drake‘s former 10-week champ “One Dance” dips 2-3, but commands Radio Songs for a fifth nonconsecutive week as the most-heard song in the country (148.8 million in audience, down 4 percent). “Dance” also extends its reign to a 13th week atop the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Notably, as Drake remains in the top 10, the superstar has now spent 46 consecutive weeks in the Hot 100’s top 10, a new record among all solo male acts. Drake’s streak dates back to the Oct. 3, 2015, Hot 100, when “Hotline Bling” bounded 16-9. With his latest frame, he surpasses The Weeknd’s 45 straight weeks in the region from March 7, 2015, through Jan. 9, 2016. (Notably, The Weeknd was the lead artist in all 45 of those weeks; Drake has been credited as the lead on songs in 35 weeks of his current 45-week streak.) The record among all acts: Katy Perry ranked in the Hot 100’s top 10 for 69 consecutive weeks (all as a lead) in 2010-11.
Calvin Harris‘ “This Is What You Came For,” featuring Rihanna, retreats 3-4, down one spot from its peak position to date. Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling” rounds out the chart’s top five, dipping 4-5 in its 12th week. “Feeling” also holds at No. 1 on Adult Contemporary for a sixth week, and leads Adult Pop Songs for a ninth straight frame.
Just below, The Chainsmokers‘ “Don’t Let Me Down,” featuring Daya, steps back 5-6 after previously sailing to a No. 3 peak.
Twenty One Pilots‘ “Ride” falls one spot to No. 7, down from its No. 6 peak, but commands the Hot Rock Songs chart for an eighth straight week. Just below, Rihanna‘s “Needed Me” slides 7-8 in its 26th week on the chart.
At No. 9, Adele reaches a new high for “Send My Love (To Your New Lover),” which inches up from No. 10. The cut, her second top 10 from third album 25, returns to the top 20 on Streaming Songs, earning 9 million streams for the week, up 3 percent. “Send” also surges to 97 million in radio audience (up 8 percent) and maintains its No. 8 rank on Radio Songs.
Desiigner closes out the Hot 100’s top 10, as “Panda,” a former two-week No. 1, drops 9-10. Despite the slide, the rapper’s debut smash celebrates a sweet 16th nonconsecutive week leading the Hot Rap Songs chart.
