As it celebrated its 4th Anniversary this June, the country’s leading radio station Star FM is taking its leadership and dominance in radio broadcasting to even greater heights by celebrating all that is Zimbabwean in the month of July. The ‘Zimbabwe special’ theme for July which resonates well with being “Proudly Zimbabwean” was unveiled during a luncheon hosted by Star FM, at the radio station’s studios for its staff to celebrate the station’s fourth birthday which fell on June 25.Programming Manager for the station, Napoleon Nyanhi said the month of July would be dedicated to celebrating all things Zimbabwean with focus being on three categories; Zimbabwean music, Zimbabwean personalities and Zimbabwean businesses.

Under this theme the station will play Zimbabwean music throughout the month allowing Zimbabwean artists a chance to rise to greater distinction and giving their music a chance to shine.

“Our local artistes will have the chance to be heard and to have their music profiled. As a station we have always believed in promoting local music and local artistes but in this month we are taking it to an even higher level.

“We are saying homegrown music and homegrown talent has the chance to shine and as it shines we will be promoting our country too,” said Nyanhi.

This development will be taken with a lot of excitement by Zimbabwean musicians who have often bemoaned lack of airplay by radio stations. Nyanhi said under the second category Star FM would celebrate Zimbabwean personalities who have made it in different spheres.

“We have Zimbabweans who have made waves in business, sports and even in the academic sphere. Some Zimbabweans have conquered the diaspora and it is time we acknowledge them and their role,” he said.

The icing on the cake however would be the low advertising rates that Zimbabwean businesses would enjoy on the station in the month of July.

“We shall be giving special rates to Zimbabwean businesses in the month of July as we run with this theme of promoting all things Zimbabwean,” Nyanhi said.

This is yet another unique offering from Star FM which recently became the first local radio station to broadcast a full shift, the 326 Express with KVG and Phathisani, from the United Kingdom.
